About 1500 Lebanese-Armenians Arrive in Armenia
1 / 4

On March 22, the Government report on the execution sheet for 2020 was discussed in the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport.

According to the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the RA Prime Minister Zareh Sinanyan, the COVID 19 pandemic and war completely changed the normal working process of the structure, and some programmes were not fully or partially implemented. In particular, the Armenia-Diaspora conference was not held, the holding of which was postponed, partially the ‘Step toward Home’ programme. The latter, to some extent, was held online.

The programme ‘In Action’ was implemented, 51 participants of which already work in the state institutions of Armenia. “6 of our compatriots intend to continue their future life in the homeland,” Zareh Sinanyan noted.

After the well-known disaster in Beirut, the humanitarian aid was sent to Beirut by 3 airplanes from Armenia and Artsakh to help Lebanese Armenian community at the beginning of August.

About 1.500 Lebanese-Armenians arrived in Armenia. They received support on housing, education and health.

In the framework of fight against coronavirus, the structure cooperated with organizations of Diaspora. Certain works have been done with the Parliament for having a law on Diaspora.

The budget of the structure was reviewed, as a result of which it was reduced by 40%.

In this context, Zareh Sinanyan has noted that the budget and the staff of the structure chaired by him are small, which has an impact on the implementation of the activities.
